Revenue increase helps Helen of Troy's 1Q edge up
Helen of Troy Ltd. posted a nearly 27 percent jump in first-quarter net income as sales rose 11.3 percent, the company said Thursday.
The consumer products company earned $18.4 million, or 59 cents a share, in the three-month period ended May 31. In the same period last year, the company earned $14.5 million, or 47 cents a share.
Revenue rose to $160.2 million from $143.9 million in the quarter.
Analysts had expected the company to earn 57 cents a share on revenue of $161.3 million in the quarter, according to Thomson Reuters.
Personal care net sales rose 10.9 percent to $112.2 million from the prior year, while housewares sales rose 12.3 percent to $48 million, reflecting sales of the Oxo product line.
The company makes items under brands such as Infusium 23, Brut, Pert Plus, SkinMilk and Ogilvie.
Shares of Helen of Troy rose 35 cents to $22.43 in morning trading Thursday.
